Bunch of Pansies!
For Mother's Day our ward decided to get all the sisters a little plant. As it happens I'm married to the guy who was in charge of getting the plants so I got to help pick them out. We got pansies. They are hearty little flowers and will probably withstand a certain amount of neglect that they may receive being tended by bunches of students/newlyweds/moms/bread-winners/too-darn-busy-for-our-own-good women.
Also they remind me of my own mom. When I was a little girl we had a rose bed next to the driveway. Mom had planted some pansies underneath for some ground level interest, I assume, and the pansies took over. The roses didn't always fare well, but the pansies were always there in volumes. And volumes. And volumes. And Mom didn't want quite such a volume of pansies. As a result I could pick them to my heart's content. Mom didn't mind me picking them, and I don't think I could have picked them all if I tried. So I have an odd association with pansies. I think of them as weeds. But delightful, fanciful, lovable weeds. And so we are having pansies for Mother's Day in our ward. But that's not even the best part. The best part is that we got to have two full flats of flowers gracing our windowsill for a day. Their cheery little pansy faces beaming at us from their perch. Fantastic.

Beautiful pictures of your new pansies, Katie. I love the sweet little face likenesses that pansies have. Good choice!
I love the memories of all those pansies - there are still a few. I can't quite bring myself to tear them all out. Pansies keep flowering if they are picked - they kind of give up if they set seed. Now we have some violets busily overtaking that space. They came in as a surprise, I never planted them and they act like the pansies did - joyfully flinging their seeds into an expanded space.
am loving your photography, Katie...unca dale
